How much does a trip like this cost???

Updated: Apr 17, 2019

Imma bout to lay some straight truth on you about all the costs involved with a trip like this.

Too many times do people say they will lay out the costs for you and then get all shy when it comes down to it, but that ends today!

Side note: I know there will be people thinking it would have been cheaper if I had done this or that, but I didn't, this is what I did.

Global Work and Travel Fee's:

The total cost for the course was $3,485 (Australian dollars)

This includes

- The one month TESOL course

Airport pickup

- Accommodation during the course

- Activities during your first month in Vietnam (cooking classes, Vietnamese language classes, self deference classes etc)

- Interviews with schools in Vietnam (and a guaranteed placement at a school on completion of your TESOL course)

- Support for yourself and family members during your placement.

Document Costs:

- Renewal of New Zealand passport $180

- 3 month, single entry business visa to Vietnam $248.10 (includes stamping and processing fees as well)

- I had to get documents, such as my degree and a police background check, notarized, authenticated and legalized .

* Notarized $75

* Authenticated $105

* Legalized $100

- One way flight

Auckland---- Taiwan--- Ho Chi Minh City $560

- Travel insurance for the full time I am there (one year) $552.91

= $1821

Other Costs:

-Vaccinations needed for travel to Vietnam $1134

so roughly $6440

So that's pretty much the breakdown of the costs and what I had to pay. Obviously that's not all of it, there were other things I needed ( for example a laptop) however I haven't included the cost of that as it is not directly related to the trip itself ( I can obviously use it after). You will also need spending money while you are there. This is a paid position but you don't get paid for the first month while you complete the TESOL course and depending on where you get placed you may get paid monthly (so therefore two months without an income)

I managed to pay for all this myself and to give you more of a perspective I had 100% known I was going to compete this trip for around 9 months, so that's when I knuckled down and really started saving. I didn't skimp on my social life and I was unemployed for around 5 weeks.

I did sell my car, which gave me a nice boost in m spending fund, but the rest was just saved through focus. Its easily done, the only advice I could give is literally just book the trip and go! everything else falls into place!!
